Oh, those bitter days of January and February – how you test the hardiness of us Northerners! (And our chickens!)
Hello, all! It’s time for the monthly blog drop. This is when I post up 3, 4, 5+ posts all at once and let you go to town on reading, looking, watching, and commenting. (We LOVE your comments!) Read all at once, or pop back in over the next few days and enjoy at your leisure.
This month we’re discussing:
- No (Grocery) Shop February
- Seed Order
- Chicken Waterers in Winter – What We Tried, What’s Worked
- My Husband, The Maker
- Around the Ol’ Homestead in February (Photo Post)
I think from those titles above you can get a good idea of this month’s topics. I have some other items I want to briefly touch on, but each one didn’t have a lot of “meat” to add to the discussion this month, so I will list the hodge-podge in this post below. Ready?
Chicken Eggs
The Girls are awesome. They have laid right through the short days of winter. Are we supplementing their light? Nope. No artificial light and no heat in the coop. Maybe it’s because they are still fairly young – not even a year old. Although they have slowed down, we’ve been getting eggs right along. And we eat A LOT of eggs. Right now we are keeping all eggs in the fridge, but we will switch back to the counter spiral.

Pretties
I can’t believe I didn’t post pics of these cute Australorp and Barred Rock chicken ornaments my dearest friend Tina made me for Christmas! Well, I’m posting them now! And check out the gorgeous blue “feathers” she weaved into the black Australorp’s fluffiness – just like the real deal! Tina, is so thoughtful. She has been my best friend for… oh, my… more than 30 years now. I am so lucky. 🙂

Totally Random
We decided to swap out the picture hanging in the dining room (the old one here) for something new. I LOVE this little street view from a French countryside town. That blue just perks me up every time I look at this picture.

So, where to next?
Well, the rest of the February Blog Drop, of course! 😀 (Or, leave your comment below!)
