In Memory…
In the hot, hot summer of 2016, Gordon and I said goodbye to our William (aka Willie). It remains one of the hardest decisions I (we) had to make, even though it was the right one. At only 10, he was so sick. And yes, we think of him a lot, and miss him… a lot.
We still believe he was a person in a cat suit.
Willie LOVED going outside, but he was a house cat and we lived in the city. Letting him out the door (although he would try to slip by us if we opened it) was NOT an option.
But we knew how much he loved being outside and exploring that tiny, fenced in back yard. Eventually, he was all about the cat leash. (Slightly embarrassed, but he got over it.)
He would have loved our new home here in the countryside. We have a huge, screened in back porch, and plenty of windows with views he would have enjoyed. But animals, like the people we love, sometimes leave this life before we do. It’s not about fair or unfair – it’s about getting to love all kinds of people and animals while we’re here.
Still, I miss that “damn cat.” He loved to push my buttons (seriously, he plotted against me – I just know it) but he ADORED Gordon.
So, My William…
You might not have made the journey with us to our homestead, but we will find you a patch of sun here. We will mark a place just for you.
We hope your spirit will run through our gardens…
With love.
